My only friend

खयालो की यहाँ बेवफाई है  [  30  April  1980  ] 

Following is my English transliteration of the same

Vanquished by wishes

In this land of lovelies ,

I stand defeated by my dreams  .


What was my destiny ?

and , where did my path lead  ?


I just kept walking ,

kept watching ,

forever asking :

"  Are you my true companion  ?  "


Were my thoughts true

or mere treacherous treason  ?


Why did desires 

rise from the depths of my soul

-  then failed to leave my lips ?


In everlasting nights I dreamed

to hold you tight

and love you right  -

Never knowing

loneliness was my only friend
